Malaga Residents Protest Mass Tourism with Sticker Campaign

Residents in Malaga, Spain, are expressing frustration with the overwhelming number of tourists through a sticker campaign. Stickers on tourist apartments convey messages like “a family used to live here” and “before this was my house,” highlighting the impact of tourism on housing availability.

Discontent stems from rising rents and a lack of affordable housing options. Many properties are now solely for tourists, pushing out long-term residents like bar owner Dani Drunko, who was forced to leave his apartment after ten years.

Drunko emphasizes the movement doesn’t oppose tourism itself, but the negative impact on locals. “We just don’t want to be evicted for tourist apartments,” he says. Locals also criticize the city’s inaction on the housing issue.
