Maldives Aims to Regain Indian Tourists Through Roadshows

The Maldives is rolling out the welcome mat again for Indian tourists, hoping to mend fences after a political spat. A key Maldivian tourism body, the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), announced plans for roadshows in major Indian cities.

This charm offensive comes after a decline in Indian visitors following critical remarks made by Maldivian officials about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January. The comments stemmed from a visit by PM Modi to Lakshadweep, an Indian archipelago.

Recognizing the importance of the Indian market, MATATO seeks to rebuild bridges. They plan to collaborate with the Indian High Commission in Maldives and host roadshows across India. Additionally, media and influencer familiarization trips are on the agenda to showcase the beauty of the Maldives.
